‘j1 automotive’ was established in 2006 by Tony Cotton (CEng), an experienced automotive engineer who had been working within the industry since 1994. Tony has worked within numerous areas of vehicle development such as; exterior lighting, climate control, vehicle interiors and more recently in air induction systems. He has undertaken various roles in development, design, engineering and project management, and before setting up ‘j1 automotive’ was head of Programme Engineering within a major supplier of powertrain intake systems.
Throughout his recent career in air induction, Tony has successfully project managed and introduced several major high volume air intake systems for both Ford and Volvo, and lower volume systems for Aston Martin in the DB9 and Vantage vehicles.
With many of the larger air induction system suppliers seeking out major volume programmes, Tony feels that ‘j1 automotive’ is uniquely positioned to support the many other smaller companies who persue lower vehicle quantities.
With his extensive background in Project Management and Product Development, and through the use of highly qualified contractors, lower volume programmes will not mean a reduction in supplier commitment, enthusiasm, customer support or product quality. ‘j1 automotive’ are both proactive and reactive, and can produce quick, efficient, professional designs and products, meaning a more speedy route to the market.

Tony's career has seen him work in many automotive product departments, and has overseen a large number of projects in air induction, and throughout these programmes he has established close links to engineering development, engineering competence and product expertise, relating to air intake design, metrology and quality assurance.
Product knowledge and understanding of the automotive industry is important for ‘j1 automotive’, and an essential element when considering resource, internal or external. In doing so, ‘j1 automotive’ maintains its lead in product innovation and air intake expertise.
